Finally after a relatively warm winter and a week of summer-like weather back in March it looks like the warmer weather is finally here to stay and maybe even be a bit hotter than usual. It looks like we’re on course for 92 degree temps today and warm the rest of the week with rain showing all of next week. That’s good because I just put down a lot of grass seed and starter fertilizer to try to fill some spots in on the lawn. Hopefully the rain next week won’t drive the centipedes into the house. We’ve already found a couple of non-house-centipede type centipedes in the house (tiny short-legged variety) but none of the house centipedes.
Last weekend was the first weekend of true yard work. That’s one benefit of winter, the grass and weeds aren’t growing so there’s nothing to take care of outside. I sharpened the blade on the lawnmower roughly and as usual the mower with the Honda engine fired right up after a few pulls, same with the weed whacker. I love power tools that start reliably! With the upcoming rain and having fertilized the lawns a bit I expect they’re going to be growing pretty nice over the next few weeks and need lots of care.
This summer we’re going to try to clear more of the property on the side of the house. In the fall we took down a few trees at the back of the property to open up the space, which it did, and cleared some trees from the side of the house. I’m hoping to tear out a lot of the stumps in the middle of the soon-to-be yard, add some topsoil and get grass growing in that area as well.
